Some Other Important Features:
|
|
| |
Quick File Analysis:
For any synchronization to take
place, it is necessary for an analysis to happen. This process goes through
deciding whether a file needs to be synchronized or not. This stage becomes
really slow as the number of files to be synchronized increases. Version 4.0's
unique Quick file analysis provides a solution in this case. It is logging all
the changes happening to files as the changes are happening in real time.
Therefore at the synchronization time, the analysis time is much less and
therefore the synchronization much faster.
Secure Authentication:
It is no more necessary to store user name and password in the client if
synchronization server is being used. Kerberos and NTLM authentication has been
added in version 4.0. This removes any need of transferring or storing any
password on the client side when using the synchronization server. It also
ensures that only properly authenticated users are able to connect to the
synchronization server. This way, fear of denial of service can also be
removed.
Secure Data Transfer:
It is possible to use one
of the encryption methods while using the synchronization server.
-
Internal Encryption (Blowfish 40-bit algorithm)
-
Windows SSPI Encryption
-
Windows SSPI Message Signing.
E-mail Alerts:
Backup administrators prefer to know whenever any synchronization error or
conflict occurs or even when a user aborts synchronization. It was possible to
do this by going through the user log files. This is much easier now in version
4.0. Now, Network/Unplugged can be setup to automatically to send mails to a
set of addresses whenever any of a set of pre-defined events takes place.
Real Time Backup makes it
possible to update the destination with the changes on the source as and when
they are happening.
Internet Backup projects allow users to backup their data to
any ftp or http destination.
Registry Projects allows users to take registry backup.
Conditional INI files makes the task of enterprise wide
rollout even more easy.
Synchronization priority can be set to run at a priority which
is different from normal. Therefore, changing it to "below normal" enables
synchronization to run when the system is in a relatively idle state.
Ignore folder feature is now available per project. This makes
the task of selector selection much more flexible.
Bandwidth throttling limits the synchronization process to use
only a portion of the available bandwidth.
Grace Period for Aging Files in backup projects ensures that
any accidental deletes on the source does not cause deletion of files from the
destination immediately.
Log repository and reporting tool feature allows
administrators to collocate Network/Unplugged client log files to one
centralized location. Also available is a tool to convert these logs to a MySQL
database.
